Ben's Story

NSW to start 2012

Venue: The Laugh Garage, CBD

Date: @

Description:

Just back from a really fun little tour of southern regional NSW alongside Darren Sanders, of soon to be released film ‘Any questions for Ben?’, and charismatic Australian-Scotsman Barry McLeod.

We had 5 stops in 5 nights and, whilst we were made welcome by appreciative crowds in each of the stops, our shows in Eden and Sussex Inlet were real highlights that I won’t forget in a hurry.

Coming up I have shows tonight at Manly, Wednesday at Oatley, Thursday to Saturday at the Laugh Garage (http://www.thelaughgarage.com.au) and Glebe’s friend in Hand next Thursday.

Love the rooms here in Sydney and looking forward to plenty of fun on and off the stage while I’m here.

Upcoming

Venue: various community venues around Adelaide

Date: @

Description:

Over the next couple of weeks I will be performing amongst several of Adelaide’s top comics at various community venues around Adelaide.

These gigs will be MC’ed by SAFM’s Cosi and are the great organisational work of leading Adelaide comedian Mark Trenwith.

They bring live stand up comedy to a much wider audience than the usual city gigs attract and are always well received by appreciative crowds who rate that the shows are brought to them!

The ‘Out of the Square’ shows I will be performing in are as follows. Tickets are available for each of them on the night at the door.

Fri July 16 Pt Noarlunga

Sat July 17 Shedley Theatre

Friday July 23 Marion Cultural Centre

Sat July 24 Starplex Theatre

Sat July 31 Golden Grove Community Centre

Bring on Melbourne and Perth

Venue:

Date: @

Description:

On Wednesday August 25 I will head to Melbourne for 3 nights of MCing at The Comics Lounge, a rock n roll comedy venue that will pack 300-plus in each night.

From there on the Saturday I will fly to Perth for a two week run that starts with a competition gig on Rottnest Island amongst 8 other emerging headline acts from around Australia, in which the adjudged winner will pocket a cool $5000 for their ten minutes on stage.

I will then perform a ‘double run’ in the Perth clubs, in which I’ll headline the first week and MC the second week at each of the venues.

I love Perth and I love the scene there - great rooms, talented comics and good people - so I am looking forward to spending what will be a reasonable amount of time on the road.

Project Wednesdays- Codename Rhino - alongside Mickey D

Venue: Rhino Room each wednesday at 8pm

Date: @

Description:

I am back in Adelaide for the rest of the year now and will be working hard to present a quality fresh show for the upcoming Fringe.

Mickey D has just started a new night at Rhino called Project Wednesday, in which any act can get up on stage (first ten to register every evening) as long as they have brought 3 paying audience members.

It is a great idea and is very similar to what is done in the New York and London scenes, and will be a great opportunity for stage time in the lead up to Fringe as comics wish to trial new maerial.

I’m going to be there a lot.

Preparing for Adelaide Fringe 2011 - already!

Venue: Sugar on Rundle and Dog&Duck on Hindley

Date: @

Description:

Adelaide Fringe is just around the corner, and if you can’t believe it as a punter, try being a performer and getting the call in August to register the show when you still feel hungover from the previous Fringe!

I cannot wait for Fringe 2011 and this being my fourth solo campaign I feel I am finally learning how to be organised on time - foreign territory I can assure you!

There sure is a bucket load to be done well before the fun part comes and you get to perform - creative process, venue selection, admin, promotional activities, etc.

I’m feeling really on track though and am also looking forward to heading interstate for 5 weeks of solid performing in January and early Feb in Perth, Sydney, Gold Coast and Melbourne to really work in the material for Fringe so that when opening night comes I can hopefully hit the ground running.

This year I will be doing my latest output in ‘No Such Thing As Normal’ at Sugar Nightclub, a show about how we define our uniqueness that will explore universal themes including sexuality, racial dynamics and gender roles in a playful but edgy way. This will be the first time I have created a full length show in 12 months and I am really looking forward to the challenge of making this a full length 50 minute show that really entertains and holds focus.

I will also be doing 3 tuesday nights at the Dog and Duck, the West End’s premiere 18-25’s nightspot, presenting a selection of bits from each of my previous solo shows and 9 years of performing standup - essentially there won’t be a rigid structure or theme to follow and I’ll just be blazing away on any topic I have ever written a joke about - yee ha should be fun!

If you’d like to stay in closer touch about these shows as the Fringe approaches, please just head to Facebook and join my fans page and I will do my best to keep you in the loop about my stuff and also the inside word on plenty of other cool performers and shows to check out.

Date: @

Description:

I’ve been on the road a truckload lately (Melbourne, Karratha, Perth, Fremantle, Kalgoorlie across the last 3 weeks) and I’m really looking forward to a couple of weeks at home in Adelaide.

I’m going to write and recharge and I look forward to bringing some fresh new energy when I return to the stage in January for a run of shows in regional NSW and Sydney.

Merry Christmas everyone:)
